How to
get there?
Mawlamyine, a charming town formerly called Moulmein,
is the capital of Mon State. It is situated at the mouth of the
Thanlwin River (Salween River), and is easily accessible by road
and rail from Yangon.
The spectacular Kyaikhtiyo Pagoda stands on a gold gilded boulder, precariously
perched on the edge of a hill over 1100m above sea-level. Kyaikhto, the town
at the foot of the hill, is about 160km from Yangon. It is an 11km up-hill
climb for hikers from Kinpun base camp. |
